And so the Summer begins

In this month’s round-up, I talk through Hollywood Storytelling, why we’re getting Productive, being invited to the Ugandan High Commission, babies, pickle ball, and more…

HOLLYWOOD STORYTELLING AT IoIC FESTIVAL 2024 - 13 June

Stories activate the parts of our brain that drive, attention, emotion, and memory.  Hollywood does it so well, so using some of the principles of Hollywood storytelling, our Co-Founder Sally Nettleton and Creative Partner Rob Steeles ran a Communications Mastery: Lessons from Hollywood Storytelling workshop at IoIC Festival 2024 earlier in June.  They anticipated a small number of attendees but were overwhelmed and delighted when 77 people arrived!  The room was buzzing with energy and creative ideas as Sally and Rob took them through applying Hollywood storytelling principles to their day-to-day work lives with the different kinds of projects they may be asked to take on.  You can catch up on Rob’s view of Hollywood Storytelling here.

GLOBAL FINANCE CONFERENCE TAKE-OFF

We’re delighted to be producing a conference for 120 global financial leaders for a client later in the year. Hosted at the Beaumont Estate in Windsor, we will be creating a series of connected experiences across a transformative two days to enable everyone to connect on a deeper level than ever before, both with each other and with the role finance plays in making a difference to their customers and across the business.  Work has already taken off and is shaping up nicely.  Can’t wait to see where we land.

GETTING PRODUCTIVE

Any business owner reading this will know that no one tool does everything you need in the business…but Productive comes pretty close.  It’s designed specifically for agencies and does everything from project management, to budgeting, to time-track to resourcing, and more.  Introducing any new platform into a business is a big investment, the time and effort involved to onboard everyone is immense but the benefits to the agency and most importantly our clients is absolutely worth it.  Who doesn’t want to save time, make processes simpler, and be more Productive!

FEMALE FOUNDERS’ CATCH-UP WITH THE AGENCY COLLECTIVE

I’ve recently joined the Agency Collective, which supports the humans behind the agencies to run a healthy and happy agency.  They run regular workshops and there’s great peer-to-peer support with lots of opportunities to connect with other agency owners either on Slack or face to face.  One of the recent groups I met with online is the Female Founders Group.  It was lovely to learn more about their agencies and talk through the first 6 months of 2024 including successes and challenges. It’s a delight to have such open and honest dialogue, share ideas and get/give advice.   We also touched on the upcoming elections and Pride month so it wasn’t all business!

JET DINNER AND AN INVITATION TO THE UGANDAN HIGH COMMISSION

We were delighted to be invited to join the Jinja Educational Trust (JET) 10th Anniversary dinner hosted at the Corinthia London Hotel, on 13 June.

We had the privilege of being invited to visit Uganda in March this year and film the JET story for a second time since our last filming trip in 2022. An incredible amount of progress has been made by the charity, making such a difference to the schools, teachers, and the children. JET's work is inspirational and the impact it has on the children's development and wellbeing is wonderful to see.

The films were so well received at the dinner that the High Commissioner of Uganda, Nimisha Madhavani has asked if they can be screened at an event at the High Commission in the Autumn.

IT'S WORK EXPERIENCE SEASON

We've been inundated with requests from students wanting to come and experience what life is like behind the scenes at the agency. It's truly wonderful helping entry level talent and inspire them with the possibilities of where their careers could take them in the creative industry. One such candidate, 15 year old Luke, had a week with the film team and loved it so much, ended up having his week rounded up with this motion graphic film piece featured on TikTok and our Instagram channels. More to come next month on our newest arrivals.

TOUCAN FLEDGLINGS

We are delighted to have two new Toucan babies in the nest.  One hatched 5 weeks early as Helen Kimmerling, our Client Services Director, and Barry Castagnola, our Head of Film, gave birth to baby Cora.  She was somewhat of a surprise but bounced in at a healthy 6lbs.  I was lucky enough to visit her in the hospital and have a cuddle!  Barry also dialled her into the team meeting on Monday…we like to start them young at Toucan!  We are also looking forward to welcoming another baby girl in August courtesy of Jess Jones our Strategic Partnership manager and her partner Barney.

TOUCAN TEAM DAY

We had our summer team day on Thursday 26 June.  An afternoon of facts, frivolity and friendship.  After business presentations and baby shower gifts and games in the office we headed to The Padel Yard in Wandsworth for some very competitive games of pickle ball doubles, great food and a few Pimms.  The day was topped off by news of the birth of baby Cora.

AND FINALLY…

Managed to take a week’s holiday in Spain with my Co-Founder and best mate Sally Nettleton.  Not been to Mallorca since I was a teenager…so not that long ago! ;o)  Had a wonderful, relaxing break at the Hotel Bon Sol - I can highly recommend it.
